So some of you might be wondering why I’m wishing you a Merry Christmas so far after December 25th, but what you might not know is that today is the twelfth day of Christmas! I am always surprised at how many people do not realize that the 12 days of Christmas start on Christmas Day, and not 12 days before it. Technically the twelfth day of Christmas falls on January 5th, but traditionally the end of Christmas is celebrated on January 6th, or the Epiphany. January 6th is also the setting for Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night! One of my favorite plays. I’ve always wanted to throw a Twelfth Night party, a night where everything, like in the play, is topsy turvy, a night of opposites.
In Christianity today is the day that the Three Wise Men came, and some say that’s its because of him that we give presents at Christmas time, because of the gifts that the Three Wise Men brought and presented to the baby Jesus. So I hope today you took the time to appreciate all the great things you have in your life, because there’s always at least one thing to be thankful for, even if’s simply that you woke up in the morning, and if you didn’t well it’s never too late. Next year, remember that December 25th is only the beginning of the celebrations, and on January 6th throw a little topsy turvy dinner. Switch the roles, switch the meals, switch the clothes, and enjoy!
Merry Christmas Everyone!
